Jonathan Brown joined Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin & Associates as a Senior Researcher in 2005 after a four-year stint as a Southern California-based political consultant, working on behalf of candidates, ballot measures, independent expenditures and public finance measures, as well as providing political counsel to corporate interests.  He directed numerous successful campaigns including those of Teresa “Tita” Smith, who was the first Democrat elected to the Orange City Council in more than two decades and Mike Gin, an openly gay Republican who was elected Mayor of Redondo Beach over two incumbent council members in a landslide.

Since joining FMM&A, Mr. Brown has worked on a wide variety of projects, with particular emphasis on candidate campaigns.  He has worked on numerous campaigns within the state of California and nationwide, including Indiana , Wisconsin for Congress and State Legislature.  In low-turnout special elections, Mr. Brown has worked on successful campaigns for City Councils in Los Angeles and San Diego and for the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education.

Mr. Brown has also played a significant role in the firm’s public finance projects, working for clients pursuing library bonds in the Cities of Diamond Bar and Monrovia, a potential funding measure for the Maricopa County (AZ) Arts Commission and school bonds for the Grant Joint Union School District, the Walnut Valley Unified School District and the San Diego Community College District.

His experience polling for ballot measures includes gaming issues in Montana and Wisconsin and land use issues in North Carolina , as well as numerous California statewide measures on a variety of topics.

Prior to moving to California , Mr. Brown worked on election campaigns around the country serving as a campaign manager or press secretary to candidates in eight states.  Most notably, he helped elect challenger Nick Lampson in Texas ’ Ninth Congressional District in 1996 in one of that year’s most watched campaigns.  He also served as Communications Director in Lampson’s Congressional office.  Mr. Brown also has worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and as a private communications consultant.

Jonathan Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1993.
